Gene Messer Kia invites you to learn why your vehicle air conditioning is not working correctly.
Your vehicle’s AC stopped working because of a freon leak or a bad compressor. Though these might be the simple to spot reasons that your AC isn’t working in your car, it might be something as simple as a bad compressor belt or a dirty cabin air filter. Regardless of how or why it can be super disappointing when ice-cold air isn’t there to battle the hot weather. Don’t sweat it though, because our experienced technicians know what to spot and are there to cool off your interior long before the first heatwave hits.
The most likely reason your air-conditioner stopped working is because your car’s air-conditioner is leaking. The vehicle’s air-conditioning system uses freon to cool the ambient air temperature and creates some refreshing cold air. Whenever there is a freon leak on your car there is no way to cool the air. Another reason for your AC not blowing cold air is because the vehicle is a hybrid. The air-conditioner system uses the engine power, meaning if your vehicle is in EV mode then the engine has stopped running and won’t power the air-conditioning.
If your air-conditioner is turned on and the fan stopped blowing cold air then you may have a blown AC fuse. These fuses help protect vehicle components from a power surge and even though it might just need to be repaired, if the air-conditioning fuse keeps popping then it’s likely there could be a larger problem at hand. A low amount of air-conditioning refrigerant or a possible leak might also be the cause, which our very skilled technicians can look at.
If the AC starts leaking, you can tell by damp spots in your vehicle or puddles seen under your vehicle where it’s parked. When your air-conditioner is pumping cold air into your car, it needs to displace all of that moisture it’s used from the outdoors and flows through the evaporator drain pipe. This could also be caused by the AC Refrigerant level being too low which leads to the evaporator coils freezing up and an overflow of condensation. You should also keep an eye out for faulty seals in the AC compartment or the AC’s air filters if this issue continues to occur.
