What’s the financing process like at Group 1 Kia Hub City?

Most buyers walk into a finance office expecting a maze, and most judge the loan by one number, the monthly payment. The paperwork is shorter than it looks: you apply, lenders return offers, and you choose a term. The decisions that protect you happen before anything is signed, and at our 19th Street store in Lubbock you can make most of them online.

Keep reading below, then schedule a test drive in Lubbock. Bringing your own numbers to the lot settles this faster than any spec sheet.

Kia financing at a dealership means you apply, compare offers, and pick a term

A Kia loan at a dealership has four moves, and the loan itself stays that short. You give your details, the dealer sends them to lenders, the lenders send back offers, and you choose one. Everything else on the signing table is a line you can check in advance.

  • Apply. You share your income, your details, and the vehicle you want.
  • Lenders respond. The dealer sends your file to lenders, and each returns an offer.
  • Compare. Every offer carries a rate, a term, and a payment.
  • Choose a term. You pick the length that fits, then sign.

Five terms come up in nearly every finance conversation. Know them before you sit down.

Term What it means in plain words
APR The yearly cost of borrowing the money, shown as a percentage of the loan
Loan term The number of months you have to pay the loan back
Pre-approval A lender’s offer on your credit, made before you pick the exact vehicle
Negative equity Owing more on your trade-in than the car is worth
Out-the-door price The vehicle price plus tax, title, registration, and every fee

Get pre-approved and value your trade online before you drive to 19th Street

Do the online steps first. In Cox Automotive’s 2025 Car Buyer Journey Study, 63% of buyers called a blend of online and in-dealership steps the ideal way to buy, against 28% who wanted an all-online process (Cox Automotive, 2026). That blend is how our store works.

You can shop our new, used, and certified pre-owned Kia inventory online. You can also value your trade and get a fast pre-approval there, then finish at the store with those steps already done. If you remember this store as Gene Messer Kia, it is the same address, now Group 1 Kia Hub City.

The trade value matters before the loan is sized, because it sets how much you borrow. It matters most when you still owe money on the old car. Edmunds found that 28.2% of trade-ins in July 2025 carried negative equity, with buyers owing an average of $6,902 more than the vehicle was worth (Edmunds, 2025). Learn that number online, in your own time, and not for the first time across a desk.

Get the full price and every fee in writing on the exact Kia

A starting MSRP is not the price you pay. Kia’s published starting prices leave out destination freight, tax, title, license, and dealer fees. The number that matters is the one written against a specific vehicle on our lot, with the trade value and every fee on its own line.

Ask for these lines in writing before you talk about the loan.

  • Vehicle price. The price on the exact car, by stock number.
  • Trade allowance. What we are paying for your trade, shown apart from the payoff on it.
  • Fees. Destination, documentary fee, and any other charge, each named.
  • Amount financed. The final figure the lender will loan.

In a July 2026 Google review, Scott H. wrote about his K5 GT purchase: “By the end of the visit, I was confident that I was getting a fair deal which had not been my experience with a previous dealership in Dallas.” A price you can read line by line is what produces that feeling.

The Texas fees that sit on top of a Kia’s price

Texas adds a short list of charges to every Kia sale. Sales tax is the big one, and it falls on the price after your trade allowance comes off. On the $28,990 starting MSRP of a Sportage LX, 6.25% comes to about $1,812 before any trade is subtracted.

Line What a Lubbock buyer pays Source
Motor vehicle sales tax 6.25% of the sales price, minus any trade-in allowance Texas Comptroller, 2026
Registration, processing, and county fee $51.75 registration, $4.75 processing and handling, and a $10 Lubbock County local fee TxDMV, 2026
Title fee $28 in Lubbock County TxDMV Title Manual, 2026
Documentary fee No state dollar cap; a seller must file with the state before charging more than $225 OCCC, 2024
Electric vehicle fee $200 a year at renewal for a fully electric Kia such as the EV3, EV6, EV9, or Niro EV; $400 for two years on a new one TxDMV, 2026

Lubbock County also has no emissions test requirement for a non-commercial vehicle, so that cost never shows up here. Each line in this table should match a line on your written price. If one does not, ask what it is before you move on.

Credit tier and loan length decide how high the payment climbs

Three things move a payment: the amount financed, the rate your credit tier earns, and the length of the term. A larger loan raises it. A lower credit tier raises the rate. A shorter term raises it too, because the same debt is paid in fewer months.

That is why the payment feels like the whole deal. Edmunds reported that a record 19.3% of consumers who financed a new vehicle in Q2 2025 committed to $1,000 or more a month (Edmunds, 2025). People reach that number by different roads, and the payment alone never says which one.

Match your situation to the first thing worth settling.

Your situation Settle this first
You owe more on your trade than it is worth Get the payoff and the trade allowance as two separate lines
Your credit is still building Apply online and read the rate on every offer that comes back
You want the lowest monthly payment Ask what the longest term adds to total interest
You want to pay the least overall Ask for the shortest term whose payment fits your budget

Compare the loan on total interest instead of the monthly payment

Total interest is the number that tells you what the loan costs. Take the total of all payments and subtract the amount financed. What is left is what you paid the lender for borrowing.

A longer term lowers each payment and raises that total, and the longer you stretch a loan, the longer you can owe more than the car is worth. So ask for each offer laid out the same way: the rate, the number of payments, the monthly payment, and the total of payments. Put them side by side and the cheapest loan is plain to see. Ask, too, whether the loan carries any penalty for paying it off early.

Signing day is short when the online steps are already done

When the trade value, pre-approval, and written price are settled, the signing is a check. You read the amount financed and the term against what you already saw, then sign.

Our customers describe that speed. In an August 2026 Google review, Liz T. wrote: “The entire process was smooth, easy, and surprisingly quick.” In June 2026, Farrah M. wrote: “Our sales guy and our finance guy were amazing. they made the process very quick.”

If a line on the final paperwork was not on your written price, ask what it is before you sign. That one question catches nearly everything.

Settle three decisions first and the signing becomes the short part

The finance office was never the maze. The loan is four moves, and the protection comes from three decisions made before a pen is picked up: know your trade number, hold the full price in writing on the exact Kia, and pick the term by what the whole loan costs. In Lubbock there is one Kia store to ask, so ask it for the numbers in that order.

Frequently asked questions

How fast is Kia pre-approval at Group 1 Kia Hub City?

Pre-approval is a fast online step. You can complete it and value your trade before you visit the store. The offers that come back show the rate and term on each option.

Can I bring my own bank’s loan offer?

You can compare any offer you hold against the ones that come back to us. Line them up on rate, number of payments, and total of payments. The lowest total interest wins.

Is Gene Messer Kia the same store as Group 1 Kia Hub City?

Yes. The Gene Messer Kia store at 6006 19th Street is now Group 1 Kia Hub City, at the same address. Some listings online still show the old name.

What if I still owe money on my trade?

Ask for the payoff and the trade allowance as two separate lines. The gap between them is your negative equity, and you should see it in writing before you choose a term.

Do the online steps change the price I pay?

They do not set it. Pricing and terms are shown on a specific vehicle, so the number you act on is the one written for that car.

What loan term should I choose on a Kia?

Choose the shortest term whose payment fits your budget. Then compare total interest at each term the lenders offer before you decide.

Does my credit score decide whether I can finance a Kia?

Your credit tier shapes the rate each lender returns. Apply, read every offer, and compare them on total interest.
